Tire Pressure for Trailer Tires and Small Trailer using Taskmaster 4.8R12 ST Tires

Question:

Just had these delivered yesterday and mounted/balanced today. My question is about PSI. I have the tires on a light duty motorcycle trailer I tow behind my Harley. My old tires were Carlisle bias ply and wore very rapidly in the center of the tire at the recommended PSI. GVWR max on my trailer is 680 lbs. What PSI should I run in the Taskmasters when my actual loaded weight will be about 330 lbs atg 68-72 MPH?

The Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT48012C and all trailer tires we carry are intended to be run at their max PSI listed on the tire when filled cold. This is different than your Harley or vehicle tires because of the way ST trailer tires are made. You should run these tires at 90 PSI when filled before the friction of the road heats them up. These tires are rated for speeds up to 81 mph so as long as you are under that speed, your tires function as intended.

With your loaded trailer weight of 330 lbs, these tires will definitely not be overloaded. Because of the radial tire, you will actually have less heat buildup and more contact with the road by design. Under-inflation could cause the tires to wear prematurely and fail. I've attached an article to assist further.

Because of the capacity of the tires and the lightweight trailer, I highly recommend testing your trailer and bike prior to taking a trip so you are comfortable with the way it handles.
