Recommended Hitch Bike Rack for a 2010 Mini Cooper S
Question:
I am having the Curt class 1 hitch installed on my 2010 Mini Cooper S 3 door hardtop soon to carry 2 bikes and am trying to decide on the best bike rack that will fit and be easy to load and unload 2 bikes. The hanging bike rack seems less bulky for my tiny car but more effort to load and secure the bikes. The platform seems to be the preferred rack based on the reviews as there is no frame contact and is easier and quicker to load bikes but may be too bulky for my little car. I would prefer a tilt away and fold up rack so that I can access the rear hatch. Any suggestions on best bike racks that would fit this vehicle? Thanks!

You are right on the money with your comparison between a hanging style and platform style bike rack. However, another fallback of a hanging style bike rack is if you have any bikes with an alternative frame like most women's bikes then you will need to use an adapter bar to keep them level which will increase the overall price of your setup. The platform style bike rack will also be able to accept a much larger selection of bikes like those that weigh over 35 lbs.
Therefore, I recommend using a platform style bike rack like the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Platform Rack part # KU74FR. This rack is less bulky than most of the other platform style bike racks we offer and it weighs in at a respectable 47 lbs. As long as your bikes do not have fender then I do believe this rack will be the best option for you. It has an anti-rattle hitch pin for reduced bouncing and a tilting feature to allow for rear hatch access.
I have attached a review video of the bike rack for you as well.
