Will the Thule OutWay 2 Part # TH65JV Work with Carbon Fiber Bike Frames

Question:

How much downward and/or clamping pressure is put on the top tube of carbon triathlon bike on the Thule OutWay 2 Platform Rack Trunk Mount? I’d prefer to not have to install hitch and this seems like a viable option but I’m concerned about the clamp. Thank you.

The Thule OutWay 2-Bike Platform Rack part # TH65JV which is a fit for your 2014 Volkswagen Passat (sedan only) is my favorite trunk mounted bike rack. The reason for this is because it is one of a kind in that it gives you a platform style without having to install a trailer hitch. It also will not require any adapters for alternative frame bikes.

In regards to the clamps that secure the frame of the bike which in your case is carbon fiber, they do not have a pre-set pressure. They are adjustable using the knob so you can choose the right amount of force for security without too much that risks damaging your expensive carbon fiber frame. The clamps also have road dampening technology (RDT) which keeps the bikes separated and secure during transport but you will want to use the Thule Carbon Bike Frame Protector part # TH984101 for extra precaution.

I have attached a review video of this bike rack for you as well.
