How to Mount 60 Inch x 49 Inch Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform Rack to 2018 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

I have a Rhinorack 60” x 49” Pioneer platform. Which backbone rail will I need to mount on my 2018 Toyota 4Runner? Will additional hardware be needed? Thanks

I spoke with my contact at Rhino-Rack regarding the Rhino-Rack 60 Inch x 49 Inch Pioneer Platform Rack # RR35TB and your 2018 Toyota 4Runner.

She stated that in order to use this size Pioneer Platform Rack on the roof of your 4Runner, you will need to actually keep the factory side rails and use the Rhino-Rack SX Series Legs # RRSX100 to mount the Platform. The Rhino-Rack Backbone Mounting System # RRRT4B1 that is designed for your 4Runner is only compatible with the larger size Pioneer Platform Racks, such as the 76 inch x 49 inch # RR42102BF.

If you wanted to go to the larger size you can use the part # JA9328, which includes both the Pioneer Platform and the Backbone Mounting System.

I do not want the rhino platform to cover my moon roof. Someone said there may be an issue attaching it to the rhino backbone. does anyone have a photo showing that issue? Thanks, this is to fit a trd 2019 4runner

I'm not quite sure what you mean by not wanting to cover the moon roof. Are you wanting to utilize the Backbone Mounting System for a platform instead of the factory side rails? If so, the Rhino Rack # JA9328 will work perfectly. I'm not aware of any particular issues when using this setup. Just note that the factory rails will need to be removed.
