Is there a Benefit in Going Up from a Load Range C Trailer Tire to a Load Range D in 205/75-15

Question:

I am looking to replace my current trailer tires, which are 205/75/r15 load C. Would there be any benefit to upgrading to load range D tires? I have a 28ft 5300lb travel trailer.

Expert Reply:

A load range D in tire size 205/75-15 is going to have a capacity of 2,150 pounds at 65 psi. The load range C in the same size is rated for 1,820 pounds at 50 psi. So while the capacity is higher on the D you are still limited to the capacity of the trailer, however, the load range D tires will last longer since they have a higher ply rating. So the biggest benefit you will get if you switch to the load range D are tires that will be a bit stronger and last a bit longer. But there is no capacity benefit.

If you just need the tires then for a 205/75-15 load range D I recommend # TR20515D. A tire shop can mount the new tires on your existing wheels.
