Westlake ST235/85R16 Trailer Tire Speed Rating

Question:

We keep hearing about China Bomb tires. We have a 2017 Vilano 5th wheel, 16K lb. It came with Westlake STS 235/85R16 tires. Tires are G rated, 14-ply, double steel belts w/nylon overlay. What is the recommended mph for them? What is the expected mileage we can put on them? Just because they are made in China by a company with over 50 years of manufacturing tires, are they considered China Bombs and should be replaced? Thank you for your opinion.

Westlake trailer tires ST235/85R16 like the # LHWL410 that you have are great trailer tires. A lot of people don't care for non-American made tires, and we can appreciate that sentiment, but the Westlake tires do not have the reputation for being unreliable junk at all. They actually are very reliable and even come with a 2 year roadside assistance program.

The speed rating for these tires is 75 mph. If you stay under that and keep these tires inflated to their max psi rating of 110 psi you'll be good.

Normallly trailer tires don't wear out from mileage. Typically they become too old and that's when they need to be replaced. Most trailer tires last about 4-6 years before they will need to be replaced.

There should be a date code printed on the sidewall - it's usually 4 digits at the end of a sequence starting with "DOT". Let me know if you still cannot find anything.
