Do You Disable Integrated Brake Controller On 2017 GMC 3500HD Denali To Use Prodigy Brake Controller
Question:
Do I have to disable the integrated brake controller? I have a 2017 GMC 3500HD Denali. My fifth wheel has the Dexter disc brakes and actuator. My problem is the check trailer wiring warning comes on almost continuously. As soon as the trailer connected notification, the check trailer wiring comes back on. I have taken my truck into the dealership and they found nothing wrong. We left on our trip and the problem continued. Once we got to our destination I went to the local dealership and they replaced everything from the module including the module to the 7 blade connector. Funny part is I ordered my 5th wheel with disc brakes for its stopping power vs the drum brakes. When the controller works the disc brakes are awesome. I just want a safe environment when pulling my 5th wheel.

I contacted the manufacturer of the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller and Wiring Adapter, Item # 90195 and Item # 3016, you referenced and they recommended by-passing the factory integrated brake controller in your 2017 GMC 3500HD Denali and see if that fixes the check trailer wiring warning message you are receiving. To do this, you will need to run a separate brake wire (normally blue but match function to function) from the P3 to the 7-Way connector on your GMC.
I have attached some some articles and a video for you to check out.
