Roof Rack and Cargo Basket Recommendation for 2015 Ford Explorer
Question:
I dont have cross rails yet, and wondered whether you would just go ahead and buy both the cross rails and roof rack, or try to go with one of the systems that mount to the factory side rails? Also, are the Curt products going to be flimsier than some of the more expensive options? Their stuff appears to be nice, but I am hard on things and a weakly constructed rack would likely die quickly. thanks.

The roof rack options we offer for your 2015 Ford Explorer are designed to attach to the raised side rails that the vehicle would have on the roof that run front to back. A very popular option would be the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack - 58" Long # MPG216 which is a confirmed fit.
The Curt roof cargo basket part # C18115-117 that you looked at will fit this rack and work pretty well. It's not flimsy but the advantage some of the other baskets have is the attachment hardware will be a bit easier to use. This uses U-bolts and wing nuts which a basket like the Thule Canyon XT # TH859XT uses U-bolts that slip over a bracket which would be a bit easier to use. Maybe not worth the additional cost though.
