Recommended Rooftop Carrier For 2015 Toyota RAV4

Question:

I have a 2015 RAV4 with a naked roof. I would like to install a rooftop cargo carrier, such as the Yakima SkyBox NX 16 Rooftop Cargo Box. Would it be more cost-effective to not install rails and use crossbars that clamp above the doors? What’s the largest cargo box for my vehicle?

To utilze a cargo box, I recommend installing a roof rack on your 2015 Toyota RAV4. The best roof rack for the money accounting for your desired use is the 2015 Toyota RAV4 Roof Rack by Rhino Rack. This rack consists of the Rhino-Rack ROC25 Roof Rack for Naked Roofs - Vortex Aero Crossbars # RR75XR, which has the built-in locks that secure the crossbars to the roof and secure channel-mounted carriers to crossbars. This is an easy, clamp on installation to door jams. This vehicle-specific complete system includes 2 crossbars, 4 legs, and fit kit.

For a cargo box, I recommend the Yakima SkyBox NX 16 Rooftop Cargo Box - 16 cu ft - Black Carbonite, # Y95AV, for your vehicle. This carrier is 75-1/2 x 35 x 16 inches. The built in adjustable clamps and flat base allow you to mount the box in just minutes. This box allows you to load on either side and has spring loaded hinges to ease lifting along with the easy-to-grab lid that makes it easy to close. The SuperLatch system ensures that the key cannot be removed until the lid is properly closed and locked. The internal anchor points allow you to tie down your gear. The largest cargo box for your vehicle will depend on some measurements, so I've attached an article to help you with the possible fit options for a cargo box on your vehicle.

For a cost-efficient option, you can use a cargo bag like the Rightline Gear Sport 2, # RL100S20. If you go that route, I also recommend protective pad # RL100650. It will not only protect the vehicle roof but also will help keep the bag in place in transit.
