Converting 4-Way Trailer Connector to 7-Way Trailer Connector

Can a 4 way wiring be converted into a 7 way with an adapter?

Expert Reply:
Yes. A 4-way trailer connector can be converted to a 7-way using an adapter like # 30717 but you will only have the same 4 functions active unless you complete the wiring. If you want to wire the remaining 4 functions of an active 7-way (the 12V power, brake controller output, and reverse lights), you will need to either tap into existing wiring or run new wires. If you want the kit to give you a complete system, I recommend the # ETBC7 which comes with the adapter, wiring, circuit breakers and connectors needed.
Then you simply add the brake controller of your choosing. I recommend our most popular option of the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 because of its presets and LCD screen to make diagnostics easy and takes code deciphering out of the equation.
