Will Thule Sonic XXL Cargo Box TH626 Fit on Narrower Crossbar Spread of 26 inches
Question:
Hi eTrailer I have a 2018 Yukon XL and was installing cross bars tonight when I decided to double check the spread on my Thule Sonic xxl. The Yukon has 3 placement options for the rear crossbar and I was expecting to use one of the two furthest from the front crossbar but when I measured the maximum distance on the Sonic Acutight’s, they’re not going to be wide enough for the 2 further crossbar placements so I’m going to have to use the next closest one to the front crossbar which is only going to be a spread of 25 or 26”. This doesn’t look right for the crossbars to be that close, especially on a Yukon XL and I was wondering what you thought of this. Will this be a stable setup with the bars this close? The manual says the spread should be a minimum of 23.58 but it just looks awkwardly close since the vehicle is so long. Thank you

For the XXL Thule roof cargo boxes like the Force XXL part # TH6359B (since the Sonic XXL is no longer available), the crossbar spread minimum is 23-5/8 inches. This figure was deemed as safe by Thule so it will work just fine for you.
I can certainly understand it seeming pretty narrow since the Yukon is such a long vehicle, but it will work well for you using either the 25 or 26 inch spread.
