Recommended Replacement Leaf Springs and Hanger Kit for 8,000 Pound Dual Axle Car Hauler

Question:

I have a dual axle car trailer with a GVWR of 8000lbs Howse Implement Co., Model No. TC1601SG116S / Serial No. 1H9CS1622LL179112. The trailer currently has 2-1/2inch wide leaf springs A=28.5, B=4, C=14.25 with equilizers A=8, B=4, E=3. Also, the distance between the hangers is 33inch front to center and 33inch center to rear. The axle diameter is 2.375. However, I am unable to find replacement leaf springs for this trailer. Therefore, I would like to replace everything with four new standard 1.75inch wide leaf springs, equalizer, shackle straps, greaseable bolts, U-bolt sets and U-bolt plates. Can you provide a kit part number with all parts included, or individual part numbers?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Starting with the leaf springs, I recommend the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e57SR. This 3-spring stack measures 25-1/4 inches from the center of spring eye to the center of spring eye. This is a more common spring length for this capacity, so it will be much easier to find an exact replacement down the line when needed.

You can then use the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # APT5.. This kit includes 6 hangers, 2 equalizers, 8 shackle straps, 14 shackle bolts, and 14 locknuts. You will need to cut off your existing hangers and weld these new ones to account for the shorter spring length. You will want to have a length of 29-1/2 inches between the front and center hangers and also the center and rear hangers. The distance between the U-bolts should be 33-1/2 inches. For a U-bolt kit you can use # APUBR-1.

I have attached an image with these dimensions labeled that you might also find helpful.
