Front Hitch, Motorcycle Carrier and Front-End Suspension Support Kit for 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe

Question:

I have a 17 Tahoe and pull a 17foot Casita travel trailer.I would like to carry a 300 lb. dirt bike on the front end. Have you had any experience doing this with your front hitch? Do you know if the Tahoe will support the weight of the bike? I cant seem to find anyone that has actually done it. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Transporting a dirt bike on a front-hitch-mounted motorcycle carrier is a good option when you also need to tow a trailer.

The key is making sure the hitch and carrier both are rated appropriately for the load. Both front-mount hitches we have for your 2017 Tahoe, Draw-Tite # 65064 and Curt # C31073, share a 500-lb vertical load rating (same as tongue weight). This means that the combined weight of the bike and carrier must remain within this hitch capacity.

You can see all hitch motorcycle carriers on the linked page. These vary in their own weight ratings from 400-lbs to 600-lbs.

It is quite likely that you will notice front-end droop from the 400-lb total weight of the bike/carrier extending out past your front axle. I do recommend that you consider installing a front-end suspension support kit to help offset that down-force. We offer Timbren kit # TGMFK15B that fits both 2WD and 4WD versions. This no-drill jounce spring kit installs in place of the factory bump stops and provides progressive resistance to support heavy loads.
