How is Trailer Battery Charged from Trailer 7-Way Connector

Question:

I have a 18ft flat car hauler that came with a small break-away battery and charger. I have since replaced the breakaway battery with a full size deep cycle battery since the trailer now has a large electric winch, flood lights and 110v inverter. The problem is the tiny 1.5a charger like a 200011 cant supply enough current to charge the big battery. The 12v circuit on my trucks 7-pin connector is 35a. is there a suitable charger for this application that might give a 10-20a charge?

If you wanted to run a maintenance charge to your trailer's battery you'll need to run wire directly from the battery's positive terminal to the 12 volt power circuit of the 7-way. You'll want to use 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1. There would be no need to wire in a charger as well since just the wire will deliver the maintenance charge.

It won't charge a dead battery though. You'd have to use a wall charger for that like the CTEK # CTEK56353 when the trailer is parked.
