Recommended Leaf Spring Bushings and Shackle Bolt with Locknut

Question:

I have a 5th wheel trailer and I am planning on replacing all the spring bushings, shackles and bolts. They are 1 3/4 inch wide springs with 3-1/8 inch shackles. I originally was going to order the Lippert 14 neverfail bushing kit which included everything I needed until I read the reviews and noticed the bolts were too long for 1 3/4 inch springs and the nuts were non-locking. Now what I am confused about is the type of bolt to use , shouldered or straight , and if un shouldered what are you torquing against , the end of threads? I need to know the best combination bolt length and shackle thickness for my application. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

I recommend using the Never Fail Bushings - 9/16" Inner Diameter, 11/16" Outer Diameter - 1-3/4" - Qty 14 # LC279685. For 1-3/4 inch springs you will want the Shackle Bolt with Locknut for Double-Eye Springs - 3" Long # 166081. There is no specific torque rating for shackle bolts, you simply want to ensure they are long enough so you have at least 2 thread protruding from the bolt. You want to tighten the bolt until the knurls go through the shackle link or hanger and the bolt head is flush. Then you want to slightly back off the nut so the components are all tight, but not so tight they cannot move.
