I just changed my accura tsx and got a 2017 GTI Sport. I just want to make sure that the hitch you have available is for 2016. Is this hitch going to work for year 2017? For your 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTI we have the Curt hitch part # C11412 which is a confirmed fit and would work well for you. I attached an install video for more info as well.

The Curt hitch you have now only fits versions of the Volkswagen Golf up to the year 2014. For a 2017 Golf you'd want the #C11412 which does fit the TSI models.
