How to Get Reverse Light and Separate Turn and Stop Signals for Trailer Towing

Question:

I am looking to have the proper harness/plugs for a homemade 1976 Toyota truck bed trailer to have the tail/brake separate of the turn signal as well as the backup lights. Tow vehicle is a 2007 FJ cruiser with a 4-flat but im willing/wanting to change that to match. Thoughts? Thanks!

To start off your project you need the Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Kit # HM47890 this kit includes a 5-Way for your trailer and a 5-Way for your 2007 FJ Cruiser. This will allow you to send the reverse signal to your trailer in addition to the basic trailer functions. You will need to connect the following functions to the following wires:

White - Ground
Brown - Tail Lights
Yellow - Left Turn/Stop
Green - Right Turn/Stop
Blue - Reverse

Once on your trailer side of things you just need to use the Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter # C56196 which will separate your turn and brake signals.

To make your connections you can use 16 Gauge wire # 16-1-1 and Butt Connectors # DW05744-5.

I have attached some review videos for you to check out as well.
