Will Adding an Engine oil Cooler Reduce Engine Temperature on a 2004 Chevy Silverado
Question:
I have a 04 Silverado with a duramax. I want to move the tranny cooler from the middle of radiator to help the air flow and keep the fan off. Never over heats just fan runs. I think cooling the oil will help cool the motor. Do you have any recommendations?

Cooling the oil might have a small effect on the overall temperature of the engine as a whole, but it will not be very much. If the truck is running hot, there could be a problem with the thermostat. If that checks out, you may need to add additional fans for more airflow. I have included a link to our fan main page and some FAQ articles for you to view.
But, that is not to say that adding an engine oil cooler is not necessary or is a bad idea. I think it will help to extend the life of the engine by keeping the oil at the optimum temperature. The Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Engine Cooler Kit, # D15660, would work well since it can be mounted anywhere there is space.
Since the unit has its own fan, you will not lose any efficiency. The in line thermostat kicks the fan on when oil passes in that is above 180 degrees. The fan will be wired to a 12 volt ignition source for power.
