Expert Reply:
The Putco Full-Coverage Tailgate Protector # P59123 will not cover the top edge of the tailgate on your 2005 Ford F-150. It is designed to fit over the interior of your truck's tailgate. If you are looking to cover the top edge of your tailgate you can use the Putco Tailgate Cap # P52619P, which according to Putco will work with the tailgate protector. I've linked the instructions for both parts so you can take a look.
