Wiring Needed to Install 7-Way and Brake Controller on a 1962 International Scout

Question:

Hi! I am building a 1962 international scout with a 2005 Chevy LM7 v8 engine. I am looking to install a trailer brake controller and also the wiring for the vehicle. The plug on the rear of the truck I would need a 7 blade plug. Could you recommend a kit for me to purchase that would work? Thank you!

We do have some universal wiring fits that I can recommend for you, but we do not have details on a 1962 International Scout so it will be up to you to make sure that the appropriate wiring is in place and accessible.

To start off you need to install a 4-Way flat connector on your Scout. I recommend the Tekonsha part # 18252 for a basic kit or part # C59496 which will draw power from your battery directly and has a modulite that will protect the wiring on your vehicle from feedback.

For a fully functioning 7-Way you need the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This include all of the wiring that you need for the light functions and a brake controller.

If you don't already have a brake controller then I highly recommend going with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is one of our most popular brake controllers due to how easy it is to use and install. The LCD screen allows you to operate the controller without having to remember codes, plus it has storable setting for various towing applications.

If you would like a more cost effective option then I recommend the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 which is an older brake controller but it still popular and has received great customer reviews.

I have attached some helpful articles for you to check out for the installations. We have many different installation videos that you can reference for the installs you just need to remember that wire colors can and will be different.
