Is the Kenda 4.80-12 Bias Tire and Bearing Buddy Kit # BB2047 Recommended for Harbor Freight Trailer

Question:

I have a HF 90154 that i would like to upgrade the wheels and tires on. I have a 4 on 4 pattern. I like the look of the aluminum wheels and the Kendas are an overall better tire than what I currently have. Also, will the bearing buddies BB2047 work with this setup? Thanks in advance!

The Kenda 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire # AM30677 is a great tire/wheel combination that has a 2.8" pilot diameter which will allow the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors # BB2047 to fit in perfectly. These Bearing Buddy protectors fit a 2.047" hub bore so you will have plenty of extra room provided that these fit your hub.

If you plan on mainly driving the highway with your trailer then I recommend looking at trailer tires that are Radial instead of this Bias tire. Bias tires are great but are meant more for off-road and agricultural applications. The Radial tires have a little more flex in the sidewall which help to make the ride a little more smooth and they do a better job at staying cool.

The diameter of the 4.80-12 size tire is 20.7" when inflated. For a similarly sized Radial tire I recommend the Kenda KR25 ST145R12 Radial Trailer Tire # AM31208. This has a diameter of 21.3" when inflated, has a larger pilot hole of 2.8", and has a higher weight capacity of 1,220 lbs at 65 psi as opposed to the 4.80-12 990 lbs at 90 psi. This tire also has a tire section width of 5.7" which is about an inch larger than the 4.9" width of the 4.80-12 tire. You will want to check to make sure you have at least 2" of clearance between your tire and trailer frame.
