Replacement Cargo Door Latches for 1994 Wells Cargo Trailer

Question:

Hello, I was looking for replacement latches for my 94 Wells Cargo trailer and found your site. After taking my old latch out it looks like the full sized latch is what I need . I have a couple of questions before I order. In the pictures of the latch , the actual closing mechanism on mine is quite a bit longer. Also, my hole for mounting the latch is larger, and I’m assuming that is to accommodate the plastic escutcheon. I’m going to try and include a photo with this inquiry. The latches are the same on the side and rear door, and I need to replace both. This is a work trailer and it has become increasingly difficult to open the doors we are currently locking them with padlocks, but opening them has become nearly impossible because both latches are broken. Please advise. Thank you.

Trailer makers do not maintain record of smaller items like the specific latches they install on compartment doors but many of these OEM products come from one of a few major suppliers like Polar and Lippert Components who produces most trailer frames made in the U.S.

Since your photo did not come through to us you can send them to me via reply email along with dimensions and I will try to identify a replacement. Or you can review the linked pages which display our range of trailer and RV door parts including part # PLR5115 that you reviewed; this is a Paddle Handle Locking Latch usually found on storage compartments, toolboxes, and doors. This item fits a door cutout that measures 4-5/8 x 3-3/8-inches.

Since your trailer is 24 years old the original lock parts may no longer be available but we carry so many types that usually a suitable part can be found. The most important information to note is the size of the door opening into which a new lock will need to fit.
