Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk

Question:

Looking for what I would need to flat tow a 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Also wiring kits or light kits for brake, signal lights. I understand I might need a 12 v charging system for my toad for charging battery. How hard are the base plates to install. Thanks,

To flat tow your 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk behind your motor home, you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, a lighting solution and a supplemental braking system.

Starting with the base plate kit, I recommend the Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit # RM-521446-5. I checked with Roadmaster and confirmed that these will fit your 2018 Cherokee Trailhawk. The EZ5 brackets are virtually invisible and easy to mount and remove. Then for a compatible tow bar, I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon 2 # RM-520. This hitch-mounted tow bar has a weight capacity of 6,000 pounds and features telescoping arms that will allow for better maneuverability and easier towing.

For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267, and not have to worry about cutting into the taillight housing. This will splice into your taillight wiring to allow your tow vehicle to control the taillight assemblies of the towed vehicle. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV. Jeep issued a tech bulletin to install wiring kit 68321424AB when flat towing your vehicle, which is available at your local Chrysler and Jeep dealership. Doesn't look like you need to worry about charging the battery of the vehicle when flat towing it though.

Then for a supplemental braking system, I recommend the Blue Ox Patriot Radio Frequency Braking System # BLU37TR. This is a great proportional system that will physically press down on the brake pedal in your Jeep Cherokee at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your motor home.

I have attached video demonstrations and installation details on all of the products mentioned.

Lastly, you will likely need a high-low adapter in order to keep your tow bar level. I have attached an article that explains how to choose the correct adapter, along with a link that will take you to our available selection. I have also attached a couple articles on flat towing that you might find helpful.
