Thule Force XT XXL Compatability with VW Factory Crossbars on a 2018 Volkswagen Atlas
Question:
I recently acquired a 2018 VW Atlas that came with factory crossbars. When searching Thules website for compatible cargo boxes, Thule prompts the shopper to choose from one of their crossbars. Can you tell me what Thule products will attach to VW crossbars? I am specifically looking at the Thule Force XXL Roof Box for my 2018 Volkswagen Atlas with factory crossbars. Thank you!

From my research, it looks like the crossbars on your 2018 Volkswagen Atlas are adjustable, so you'll have a wide range of options for your rack.
For the Thule Force XT XXL, part # TH6359B, you'll need to adjust the bars as far forward as they'll go, then space the rear bar between 23-5/8 and 37-1/2 inches away to mount the box.
If your bars aren't adjustable, then you'll need to find what the spread between your bars is by measuring from the center of the front bar to the center of the rear bar. You'll need to pick a box that has a spread requirement that includes the spread of your bars.
If your bars aren't adjustable, you can use an aftermarket kit to replace your bars, and these kits will be able to be adjusted forward and backwards to accommodate a box. I recommend the Yakima Timberline kit, consisting of:
Yakima JetStream Crossbars, 60 inches, part # Y00426
Yakima Timberline Foot Pack, part # Y33TR
Yakima SKS Key System 4 Pack, part # Y07204
The SKS locks are optional, however strongly recommended because of how the Timberline feet are made with an easy access hatch and integrated tool.
