Using the Blue Ox Patriot for Flat Towing a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Question:

How does the unit work if the manufacturers instructions for the towed vehicle say to unhook the battery cable before flat towing? And are the RM-35 Jeeep D hook adapters compatible with night hawk RM-676? Blue ox patriot 2 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited

If you need to disconnect your battery before towing then you can use the 12 Volt Outlet Kit, 20 amps # RM-9332 which will install directly to your battery and provide the power that the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR needs to operate. You may be interested in the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch # RM-766 to make disconnecting your battery much less of a hassle.

To answer your second question, unfortunately the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain # RM-676 is not compatible with the Adapter for Jeep D-Ring Bumper Mounts part # RM-035 or part # RM-035-1. Instead I recommend using the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain # RM-576 which is very similar to the Nighthawk but it is compatible with the D-Ring bumper mounts.

Since the Patriot will be drawing from your battery while it is disconnected (and thus not charging) I highly recommend installing the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 which will allow you to charge the battery in your 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited even though the battery is disconnected. You will simply need to run the wire to the center pin on the connector that comes with the Sterling tow bar.

To complete your towing setup you will need the RoadMaster Sterling All Terrain Towing Combo Kit # RM-9284-2 for the lights on your Jeep (along with the Brake Light Relay # RM-88400, Converter # 118158, and Diodes # RM-792) and possibly a high-low adapter.

I have linked our selection of high-low adapters for you to filter through as well as a helpful article to help you choose the best one for your application.

Please be sure to follow any specific guidelines laid out in your owner's manual regarding flat towing.
