Trailer Hitch Receiver and Bike Rack for a 2009 Saab 9-3 SportCombi With Single Exhuast

Question:

Hello, I have 2009 and 2008 SAAB 9-3 and a 2011 9-5 all turbo 4. I also have a 55 pound bike that I need to transport. Apparently there are class I hitches that fit my vehicles, but I am having a hard time finding a rack that will mount to a 1 1/4 inch hitch. For example, the Yakima Sport Rider E Hitch Bike Rack Model HR1450E is ideal but mounts to a 2 receiver. HELP!!!!

You do have a hitch available for the 2009 Saab 9-3 SportCombi Single, but not for the 2011 Saab 9-5 All Turbo.

For your 2009 Saab 9-3 SportCombi Single Exhaust, I recommend adding the Curt Class I Receiver Hitch, part # C11415. This is a no drill installation that may require trimming some parts of the vehicle underbody. I've included our trailer hitch installation tips article to help your install go as smoothly as possible.

For a rack, you're right in noting that a 55 pound bike is a little tricky, but there's actually a great rack available that will let you carry the larger bike and another bike if you need to.

I recommend the Thule EasyFold XT, part # TH903202 for your rack. This is a Class I, 1-1/4 inch compatible rack that at 45 pounds can do quite a bit. It has a maximum capacity of 65 pounds per bike position, and can adjust to carry bikes with 3 inch wide tires and a wheel base of 48 inches.

It uses fully adjustable wheel and frame cradles that you can custom fit to your bikes, giving you maximum flexibility. The EasyFold XT also includes integrated bike and hitch locks, providing added security to your bikes if you stop during a trip.

I've included a video review of this rack that includes test course footage, showing its performance in real-world conditions.
