I took a look at the online owner's manual for your 2005 Dodge Durango. It states that all 2005 Dodge Durango trucks are intended to tow trailers of up to 2,000 pounds without any added equipment or alterations to the standard model. It goes on to say that your vehicle may be factory equipped for safe towing of trailers over 2,000 pounds if it has the factory tow package. This capacity can get up close to 6,000 pounds, depending on your exact model and what the truck is equipped with.

The most accurate method for obtaining this information is by looking through your copy of the owner's manual for your vehicle. You can also visit a local Dodge dealer with your VIN and they should be able to provide you with this information.

If you are needing any particular components for your towing setup, please let me know and I will be happy to recommend a product that is confirmed to fit your Durango. For example, if you do not yet have a trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Round Tube Receiver Hitch # 75292. This is a really nice, heavy duty Class III hitch that will provide you with a 2 inch opening and has a 6,000 pound towing weight capacity.

I have attached the installation details on the hitch that you can also take a look at.
