Transmission and Ignition Instructions for Flat Towing 2017 Ford Edge
Question:
further to flat towing the 2017 ford edge does the transmission have to be placed in neutral only with ignition turned off. have heard that the key must be turned off 5-6 times also seems to be rather complicated to me there are no specific detailed instructions in the owners manual similar to the dodge vehicles which seem to be much simpler

I took a look at the online owner's manual for your 2017 Ford Edge. Please note that only the 6-Speed, automatic transmission 6F50/6F55 model of your Ford Edge can be flat towed with all 4 wheels on the ground.
If your Ford Edge has an ignition key (not a keyless start), you will start the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal and then turning the ignition key until the vehicle starts. You will then press the brake pedal and shift the transmission into neutral. Turn the vehicle off by turning the ignition key past the accessory position. The key should be positioned between the accessory and off position. You will lastly disconnect the negative (black) cable from the battery and start the engine within 15 minutes from doing so.
I highly recommend taking a look at your copy of the owner's manual, as its possible you have a different model and there may be other restrictions or guidelines for you to follow. The section for flat towing should be titled "Recreational Towing". The information I found was located on page 236-239 of the manual.
