What Will the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit Part # 83660 Fit
Question:
I have a 25 V-NOSE snowmobile trailer with a GVWR 9990, empty weight is 4090, and I plan on loading roughly 4000 to 5000 lbs of equipment. I will be pulling with a Ram 3500 diesel that has a 2.5 inch hitch. I want to install a Reese sway control friction item # 83660 to control sway. If I buy the Reese sway control, what specific Class V hitch will I need, as well as which sway control bracket will I need? I would like to order it all from you, so please let me know what specific parts I need for the setup i described above, so i can place an order ASAP.

The Reese Friction Sway Control Kit part # 83660 will work with all Class I and up trailer hitch receivers. As long as you have at least 6" long x 3" tall of space 24" back from the center of the hitch ball on the a-frame of your trailer and you do not have surge brakes, then this sway control bar will work well for you. If your trailer is longer than 26', you will want one bar on each side of the trailer.
Once the ball plate for the bar is attached to the trailer frame, you will need to attach the other end of the bar to your ball mount. In order to do this you will need to have the Sway Control Tab part # 3442 welded onto each side of the ball mount that a sway control bar is present.
As the gross trailer weight (GTW) of your trailer will likely be more than 50% of the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of your vehicle, a weight distribution system is recommended. Most weight distribution systems we sell have integrated sway control therefore, I recommend going this route for the best of both worlds.
In order to choose the correct weight distribution system, you will need to measure your trailer's tongue weight and any weight stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. You can do this by using our etrailer Trailer Tongue Weight Scale part # e99044. Once you have determined your total tongue weight, you can then choose the most effective weight distribution system for your needs.
For a total tongue weight between 100-400 lbs, I recommend using the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System part # EQ37040ET and for a total tongue weight between 300-600 lbs part # EQ37060ET is the system you will want. All of our Equal-i-zer weight distribution systems have an integrated 4-point sway control to reduce trailer sway as it occurs and before it happens. In order to use a weight distribution system with a 2" shank on your 2-1/2" trailer hitch receiver tube, you will also want to use the Curt Reducer Sleeve part # C45405.
I have included a review video of the sway control bar and weight distribution system for you as well.
