Can Weight Distribution and Rear Helper Springs be Used Together on a 2007 Honda Pilot
Question:
I ordered this part due to arrive today for my 2007 Honda Pilot 4WD Exl. Vehicle has complete tow package recommended by Honda transmission cooler, etc. We just purchased a new travel trailer and had a weight distribution hitch installed. During our first trip I noticed some dip in the rear end of the Honda, tried re-adjusting chains, didnt help. Did some research and found the THROD2, which sounded like it could be a resolution to my problem. I happened to glance at the qanda section while tracking my order and saw that etrailer does not recommend using this SES in conjunction with a weight distribution hitch. I guess my question is: what options do I have? Im going to hold onto the THROD2 for now. Thanks

You can actually use rear helper springs such as # THROD2 with weight distribution on your 2007 Honda Pilot, it just isn't ideal. However, I would first make sure your weight distribution system is appropriately rated for the total tongue weight of the set up. Total tongue weight is the tongue weight of the trailer plus the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. So it is possible that your system is underrated for the total tongue weight.
There are other adjustments you can make to a weight distribution system besides the chains. On chain hanging systems the fewer chain links means more tension on the bars which would then equal more lift on the vehicle side. More chain links would have the opposite effect. In addition to the chains you can adjust the angle of the head on most systems. Tilting it towards the trailer will reduce tension while tilting it back towards the Pilot will increase the tension.
If the system is adjusted properly and has the proper tongue weight capacity rating and you still have problems then adding helper springs will help.
