Can a Dirt Bike be Carried on Curt Aluminum Cargo Carrier on a 2012 Cadillac SRX
Question:
I have a 2012 Cad SRX with 2 in hitch. What is the possibility of using this aluminum folding carrier for a motorcycle dirt bike. Tied properly and using a wheel chuck, does not exceed weight rating Has this been done before ? I prefer this over the moto rack for versatility reasons

Provided that the wheelbase of the dirt bike is less than 60 inches then it would fit on the Curt aluminum cargo carrier # C18100. And like you said the bike has to be within the capacity of the carrier. But also the combined weight of the carrier (29 pounds) and the dirt bike cannot exceed the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch and vehicle (whichever is lower).
Depending on which 2 inch hitch you have on your 2012 Cadillac SRX the hitch tongue weight will be either 400 or 500 pounds. According to the vehicle owner's manual front wheel drive models without the factory trailering package have a max tongue weight capacity of 250 pounds. Models with the factory trailering package as well as all-wheel drive models have a max tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds. So the vehicle is limited to 250 or 350 pounds tongue weight depending on which version of the SRX you have.
This means the combined weight of the carrier and the dirt bike cannot exceed 250 or 350 pounds (again, depending on the model SRX you have).
If the bike and carrier weigh too much for the vehicle's tongue weight capacity then the best option is a small trailer such as # K2MMT4X6. Using a trailer will put much less stress on the vehicle since the trailer is supporting most of the weight making it the safer, not to mention most versatile, option available.
