Expert Reply:
Trailer brake controllers such as the excellent Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 use a 4-wire hookup for any vehicle. These connections can be hard-wired using install kit # ETBC7 or made with a wiring adapter, depending on how the vehicle is equipped from the factory.
The controller's four wires are as follows:
BLACK delivers 12V operating power to the controller; this connects to the battery positive terminal via a 30-amp circuit breaker.
RED delivers the brake trigger signal to activate the controller; this connects to the cold side of the brake light switch.
BLUE carries the controller output to the brake circuit on the 7-way trailer socket on the vehicle.
WHITE is ground and connects to the battery negative terminal.
If your Grand Cherokee has a factory-installed 7-way then it also has a port for connecting the Prodigy; this is under the dash and only requires wiring adapter # TK93VR. If not, it can be hardwired as shown in the linked articles. The kit # ETBC7 includes all parts needed to wire a controller, so long as the car already has a 4-pole harness like # 118727.
