Recommended 2-Inch Class III Hitch for 2017 Honda CR-V

Question:

Honda installed a class 1 trailer hitch to my 2017 honda CRV. The pin depth from the front of receiver to center of pin hole is 1. Bike rack manufacturers recommend that the pin hole be at least 1.5 inch from front of reciever to center of pin hole and manufacture says safety and performance will be affected. They do not recommend any of their racks for my hitch. It seems, the hitches you sell Are at least 2inch from front. What are my options? BTW, center of hole to reciever backstop is approx 3.5.

We offer 2-inch Class III aftermarket trailer hitches that will be much better for using a hitch-mount bike rack on your 2017 Honda CR-V than the light-duty Class I hitch currently installed. Class III hitches have higher weight ratings and in general will offer better compatibility with the range of hitch-mount accessory items available today.

Of the two options we can offer, Curt # C13397 and Draw-Tite # 76128, I suggest the Draw-Tite since it has both a lower price and a higher weight rating. This hitch offers no-drill installation and includes all the required mounting hardware. Both the written instructions and a helpful video are linked for you. All tools required for installation are listed in the instructions.

With this 2-inch Class III hitch installed you can use a 2-inch bike carrier such as the Thule Vertex 2 hanging carrier # TH9028XT along with hitch lock # THSTL2, or even a much larger (and heavier) 4-bike platform-style rack such as the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HR1400Z.
