Recommended Brake Controller for Motorcycle Trailer with Brakes

Question:

I have a little 350 pound motorcycle tent trailer that from the factory had an option for brakes. The company no longer offers brakes, but the axle has the flange on it to bolt a brake to. The current wheel size is a 12. Do you guys offer a complete kit that includes everything to install electric drum brakes? And what kind of brake controller do you offer? Being mounted to a motorcycle, it wont stay level

Expert Reply:

For your trailer, you can add brakes since there is the flange already mounted to your axle. You will need to pull one of the hubs off your trailer spindle to see if you can get the bearing numbers off the face of the inner and outer bearing of that hub. If the numbers are not legible, then you will need to use a digital caliper like # to measure the spindle where the bearings rest on the spindle. I have attached a photo to assist.

That will help me get you the brake assemblies and the drums you will need. For a brake controller I recommend a time delayed controller like the # 80550 that doesn't have the inertia sensor like a proportional controller that could cause issues with the leaning around corners that you'll naturally do on a motorcycle.
