Why Does Brake Controller Install Port of 2012 Toyota Tundra Have 5 Wires When Only 4 are Needed
Question:
Read the reviews and install videos- but before I buy the Prodigy P3 I need to understand why my OEM Trailer Brake Jumper Harness Wire Connector shows 5 connections and the Prodigy P3 only shows 4? My connector: Black-Red: Fused Trailer Brake Battery feed. Green: Headlamp switch to vehicle tail lamps Not used in Prodigy P3 connector Green-White: Vehicle stop lamp to break controller Input Brown: Trailer Ground Red: Trailer Electric brake feed from Brake Controller Output Q: if GREEN wire not used - how will trailer lamps come on?

That fifth wire would not be needed on the brake controller install connector of your 2012 Toyota Tundra.
The reason that circuit is there is for basically turning on a brake controller display light with the vehicle headlights. The p3 (and all of the Tekonsha controller), do not require this as their displays are always bright enough to be seen. It has nothing to do with powering your trailer running lights as that's on a totally separate circuit.
So all you need are the 4 wires of the # 3040-P to install the # 90195.
