As you mentioned, some of the trailer lights like the Optronics Trailer Stop, Turn, Tail and License Plate Light, 7-Function, Left Hand # ST9RB state that they have a shock proof socket. The manufacturer specifically makes the housing so that the socket has a little bit of play for vibration and road shock built in and they term that a shock proof socket. It just ensures the socket isn't mounted so rigid that the bulb has no give and shatters. This vibration dampening design helps the trailer light bulbs to last longer.
