How to Connect a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller to a 2005 GMC C4500 Topkick
Question:
I have a Tekonsha P3 brake controller I removed from my other truck. I now have a 2005 GMC C4500 Topkick I would like to install it in. Do they make a wiring harness for this truck?

You can install your Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 in your 2005 GMC C4500 Topkick, but, your vehicle does not have a brake controller port, so there is no adapter. But, never fear, there is a way to use your Prodigy with your truck. The P3 will need to be hardwired into your truck using a 4 & 7-Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7.
Normally this would require the installation of a 4-way wiring harness first, which would then be plugged into the # ETBC7. But, since there is not a 4-Way wiring harness for the Topkick, you will need to clip off the 4-way plug in the kit and splice the wires directly into the tail lights.
Brown - tail light circuit
Green - right turn/brake
Yellow - left turn/brake
White - ground
The installation kit comes with 25 feet of wire, but you may need additional wire, # 10-2-1, and a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to find the correct wires. I've attached a link to the installation instructions for the # ETBC7 kit and the P3 for your convenience.
If you left them in your old truck, you may also need to purchase the P3 Plug-In Harness # 20127, and the Replacement Mounting Bracket Kit # TK5906.
