Recommended Brake Controller and Wiring For 2015 Chrysler Town and Country with Factory 7-way

Question:

I have a 2015 Chrysler Town and Country Limited Platinum. It has factory hitch reciever and a factory 7 way connector. I am considering buying a smaller camper like a popup and expect I will need a brake controller. What do I need? I would like to use my factory 7 pin connector and not have to have some other connector dangling back there to bypass the factory installed components. I would think if it is all factory then there should be something I can mount in the cab and plug in to utilize the 7 way plug which I expect would include some connection for the brakes on the trailer. But I know nothing about towing or brake controllers yet. Please help me on my journey.

On your 2015 Chrysler Town and Country Limited Platinum, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 brake controller. This controller is great for people who have never used trailer brakes as well as for folks that use a brake controller everyday. It is a proportional controller that will apply the brakes on your trailer at the same time and with the same amount of pressure as you hit the brake pedal in your van. It has an easy to understand LCD screen and has presets to make it extremely easy for even the novice.

For your trailer connection to connect with a brake controller, you will need the wiring kit # 5506. Because you already have the 7-way, we will just need to add the wire for the brake controller and the 12V power to that connector. I've attached a video where they use the # ETBC7 Kit which the # 5506 is basically the half of the kit that you don't already have. The rest of the installation will be extremely similar.
