Question:

Took it to Toyota to reset, they cant with the new wiring in. Taking that back out- now Toyota days it may not work to wire this hybrid for this purpose. What?!? We were told it would be fine, and just nought a 20,000 Aliner- that we cant tow...! Help?

If the wiring that was done tied directly into the tail lights of your 2008 Toyota Highlander but did not have a converter, that may be the reason it was throwing codes. In order to install a 7-Way trailer connector on your Highlander, you will first need to install a 4-Way wiring harness, # 118449. I have included links to the installation details and a video showing a typical installation.

Next, you will need to install a 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This provides a 7-Way trailer connector at the back of the vehicle and includes all of the wiring and circuit breakers needed to install a brake controller. I have included additional links that explain the installation of an ETBC7 kit.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. It is one of our best selling brake controllers because it is easy to set up and easy to use. I have included a link to the installation details for reference.
