How to Select Weight Distribution Hitch for 8K Travel Trailer Towed by 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe LT

Question:

Does the equalizer hitch/sway control fit on any vehicle? I have a 2016 Tahoe LT. We will be hauling a travel trailer about 8,000 pounds. Thank you

Weight distribution/sway control systems (WD/SC) like the Equal-I-zer # EQ37060ET are not vehicle-specific but it is important to choose the right one to match your loaded trailer's actual tongue weight (TW).

You can use a scale # e99044 to weigh your travel trailer's actual tongue weight when it is fully loaded with your supplies, and with full water and propane tanks. If you carry any substantial cargo behind the Tahoe's rear axle, then you need to add that cargo weight to the trailer TW. With that known you can choose a system so that your total TW figure falls in the middle of the system's operating range.

When a trailer is loaded properly its TW will be between 12- to 14-percent of its gross weight (GVWR). If your trailer's GVWR is 8K, then if loaded to capacity its TW would be 960- to 1120-lbs.
For this case you'll want to look at systems in the 1000-lb range. Please refer to the linked page that will let you select your total TW; you'll then see just the systems suitable for that weight.

Equal-I-zer system # EQ37120ET works for a TW range from 800- to 1200-lbs so it would be perfect for TW of 1000-lbs. You can have a look at the linked videos for more on this system and how to choose the right one. The system you referenced, part # EQ37060ET, works over a TW range from 200- to 600-lbs so this one would likely be too light for your trailer.
