How to Carry 4 Bikes on a 2012 Toyota Prius v
Question:
Hi Etrailer.com - I own a 2012 Toyota Prius V. I want to add a hitch and bike rack on the back, that can carry up to four bikes. When I search for my make and model, I see a 1 1/4inch hitch with a 200lb tongue limit, which should work for me since my bikes will not weigh 50 lbs, but in the Q+A, I see that it is only recommended for two bikes. Am I stuck at two? Thanks for your help

Yes, a Class I trailer hitch receiver for your 2012 Toyota Prius v, like the Draw-Tite # 24847 is only rated to carry up to 2 bikes. This is because the distance a 4-bike rack extends from the vehicle causes too much stress on the vehicle from the movement of the rack.
To carry 4 bikes on your Prius v you'll need to get a little creative such as using a hitch mounted rack on the back of the vehicle along with a roof rack on top.
You'll need a roof rack like the Thule made up of parts # TH711400, # TH710501, # TH145001 that's confirmed to fit your Prius. Then add bike carriers to the rack using the RockyMounts TomaHawk # RKY1222. You will need to verify that the vehicle's roof can support the weight of the roof rack, bike carriers, and bikes as well.
I've linked some videos on the products for you to take a look at.
