Recommended Trailer Breakaway Kit and Hub/Drums and Hydraulic Brakes for Trailer with Dexter Axle

Question:

1. I am planning to purchase the HS381-8065 Hydrastar Electric over Hydraulic brake system. Which Break-Away kit would you reccomend? 2. I have a Dexter? KD7089 7K Drop Axle. Which Hydraulic Brake assemblies and Hub Drum assemblies do I need. Thank you, in advance for your advice. Respectfully Submitted.

You can use Tekonsha Breakaway Kit # 50-85-313 along with your HydraStar EOH Drum Brake Actuator # HS381-8065. If you prefer, we also offer the HydraStar Marine drum brake actuator kits # HS381-9066 (1200-psi) and # HS381-9065 (1000-psi) that include breakaways and 7-way wiring parts.

To find compatible hub/drums you will need to find the bearing part numbers from your current hub. Please refer to the linked diagram to see how these part numbers appear. You want to match up the axle weight rating, the bearing set and the wheel bolt pattern so that the hub works with your existing wheels. Please refer to the linked article.

Your axle reference KD7089 refers to an AL-KO axle (it is not a Dexter number) but my contact at AL-KO could not tell me the bearings needed to fit it since that number could appear on more than one axle.

You want to select hydraulic brakes based on the hub/drum size, the axle weight rating and the mounting pattern on your brake flanges. All hydraulic brakes are linked for you.

Also please note that your trailer brake controller will need to be compatible with EOH braking systems. Not all brake controllers work properly with EOH actuators. The Prodigy units, the P2 # 90885 and the P3 # 90195 for instance, are compatible with both electric brakes and EOH actuators.
