Companion Hitch Recommendation to Replace Older Style Companion with Lower Capacity

I currently own a BandW Companion Hitch set up in my 2016 Ford F-350. The current hitch is rated for 18000lbs. Can I upgrade to 20,000 lb towing capacity by buying a 20,000lb lower unit and reusing my existing upper towing unit head?

I wish I could say yes, but you're going to have to replace the entire hitch and not just the base of the Companion. They upped the capacity of the Companion hitches a couple years ago but they did so by updating the head and base design. So to get the additional capacity you will need to go with the part # BWRVK3500-5W.

Functionally they are the same as they have the same jaw design, but they do attach differently so they are not interchangeable. The Patriot head replacement is the part #BWRVC3200 and the Companion head replacement is #BWRVC3006.

Yes. The old B&W Companion head is not a different design from the current model, so you can simply get the base #BWRVB3300 that is compatible with your Ford factory puck system and utilize your current hitch head on your 2017 F-350.
