Replacing a Roof Vent Lid on a 2007 American Hauler Nighthawk Trailer

Question:

I have a 2007 7x10 american hauler nighthawk trailer. The roof vent lid has broke, is there instructions anywhere on how to replce the lid and / or the whole vent assembly? I took everything apart that I could from the inside, but it seems that i still cant get the lid to pop off. Can I crawl on top of the trailer to work on the roof vent? thanks,

Depending on the hinge type that is on your vent, there could be more than one way to remove and replace it. You will need to look closely at the hinge type and compare that to the various lids we have. Take a look at lid # BV0554-01, as an example. Lower on the page there is a close up picture of the hinge.

In order to separate the lid from the vent assembly, you will have to loosen and maybe remove the central control arm. Once separated from the assembly, the lid can slide out from the hinge.

If you want to replace the entire vent assembly with something like # V2092SP-28, you will need to make sure you have a rough in opening of 14-1/4 inches square and 2-1/8 inches deep. Different length garnishes can also be purchased if your roof is thicker. We also have the installation kit, # 344270KITW, should you decide to replace the whole vent.

As far as working on top of the roof of the trailer, you will need to consult your trailer owners manual to see what the capacity is of the roof and compare that against how much weight would be on the roof. You may also get this information from the trailer manufacturer. If the capacity is high enough be sure to take all necessary safety precautions to reduce the risk of injury.
