Upgrading 4-Pole Trailer Connector on 2008 Ford F150 to a 7-Way
Question:
I have a 2008 F150 without the towing package. I need the Brake Controller connector/wire harness at the rear of the truck on the hitch. Is there a kit? The truck has the standard 4 pin connector it came with from the factory.

To convert your existing 4-pole connector to a 7-way, you will need an adapter, part # 37185. If you follow the existing wires that connect your 4-pole connector, you should find a blue and an orange or red wire in the wiring harness along the drivers side frame rail. The black wire on the adapter would connect to the red or orange wire, and the blue wire on the adapter would connect to the blue wire in the harness. The purple wire it typically used for reverse lights on the trailer. If needed, this wire can be lengthened and tapped into the reverse light circuit on the truck. If not needed, you can simply cap off the end of the wire and tape it up out of the way. The 4-pole connector on the adapter would attach to the 4-pole connector on the truck.
Once the 7-way is in place, use the # 3035-P to connect the brake controller to the plug under the dash, which should be located above and to the right of the OBDII port under the steering column as shown in the photo I've provided or the video I linked.
