Thule Motion XXL Rooftop Cargo Box Compatibility With 2014 Mazda CX-5

Question:

Hello, I would like to purchase a Thule Motion XT XXL first choice or Force XXL second choice for my 2014 Mazda CX-5. Thules website indicates that both of these should fit my Mazda CX-5, but I am concerned about interference with the hatch door. Your video of the Force XXL on your Mazda CX-5 demonstrates there is no interference with the hatch door, even though the actual front clearance about 45 inches is much less than the required front clearance 55 inches. Since the Motion XT XXL is very slightly shorter than the Force XXL, I think it should also fit the Mazda CX-5, although it doesnt seem to have enough front clearance either according to a document on Thules website. Would you let me know if you think the Motion XT XXL will fit the CX-5? Any chance you could try it on your CX-5? I am using Thule Aeroblade Edge crossbars on factory rails. Thank you for your help

The Thule Motion XT XXL Rooftop Cargo Box - 22 cu ft - Black Glossy # TH629906 requires a front clearance of 55 inches. The Thule Force XXL has been replaced by the Force XT Rooftop Cargo Box - 22 cu ft - Black AeroSkin # TH6359B requires 54-3/4 inches of front clearance. Unfortunately we don't have a CX-5 available to test it on for you, however, my contact at Thule confirmed it will fit. Your roof rack is supposed to have a spacing of 32 inches, so either roof cargo box will fit.

The external dimensions of the Force XT are 90-1/2" long x 35-1/2" wide x 18-3/4" tall. The Motion XXL dimensions are 91-1/2" long x 37-1/2" wide x 18" tall, so it is 3/4 inch shorter and 2 inches wider. The motions will be a better option your CX-5 than the Force XT based on these dimensions.
