Trailer Wiring Harness and Other Parts to Tow a Trailer with a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse with Rear AC

Question:

Which wiring package should I use? I do not have a towing package, and I have rear air conditioning. I can see that I need the relays to activate the relevant wiring. However, there was something in one of the videos that made the correct part conditional on *not* have a rear air conditioning.

From what we have found all the Chevrolet Traverse models from 2017 like yours have the factory tow package connector under the vehicle near the frame rail on the passenger's side even if it doesn't have the tow package. I've attached a picture that shows the connector you need to find.

If your Traverse does have this connector you can use # 118270 for a 4-way trailer connector. This also includes the fuses and relays you'll need to install to activate the tow package. I've linked a video that shows the entire process.

If you don't have the connector another option is to install the Curt # C56181, even though our site says not to. This installs behind the tail lights but this is where you have the issue of the rear air conditioning being in the way. This is going to be a very labor intensive install which is why we don't recommend it. If this is your only option I recommend having the work performed by a professional.

If you also need a trailer hitch receiver I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75528. It's a Class III, 2 inch trailer hitch designed specifically for your Traverse.

You'll also need a ball mount and hitch ball. I've attached a link of our selection of ball mounts for a 2 inch hitch receiver as well as an article to help you determine the correct rise or drop you may need. Once you choose a ball mount you can then choose a hitch ball to fit it.

One way to make choosing a ball mount easier is to go with an adjustable ball mount like the B&W Tow & Stow # BWTS10038B. It features the ability to be flipped under the hitch when not using it and will provide up to 5-1/2 inches of rise or 5 inches of drop.

For a pin and clip to fit you can use # PC3 or if you'd like to have a locking pin you can use # BX8858.

I've also included links to some articles on towing that you might find helpful.
