Recommended 2-Bike Hitch-Mount Rack for 2012 Acura TSX Wagon
Question:
I have a 2012 Acura TSX Wagon. Im looking for a trailer bike rack to carry a variety of bikes, including two 3 speed city bikes that have folding rear baskets and chain guards, etc. I currently have a 3 bike Alien trunk mounted rack and I leave a space empty between the two bikes because theyre somewhat bulky. The bikes each weight close to 35 pounds. Can you recommend a high quality trailer hitch rack that would work well with these bikes? I would prefer a platform rather than hanging rack but Im not sure if they would allow enough spacing between the two bikes.

For your 2012 Acura TSX Wagon, I recommend looking at the Thule Doubletrack Pro XT Bike Rack # TH92BJ. This is ia great platform-style bike rack that is compatible with both 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch trailer hitch receivers and will hold up to 2 bikes at 35 pounds each.
An important feature on this rack with regards to your city bikes is the sliding, reinforced wheel trays. These can be adjusted and moved to accommodate bikes of different lengths and eliminate bike-to-bike contact. This means you can mount your two bikes in offset positions from each other so the rear folding baskets will not make contact with the other bike. The carrier will secure bikes with wheel bases of up to 46-1/2 inches and tires up to 5 inches wide. A bike and hitch lock are included to secure the carrier to your vehicle and the bikes to the carrier.
If you do not yet have a trailer hitch installed on your Acura, I recommend the Curt Class I Round Tube Receiver Hitch # C11085. This is a Class I trailer hitch that will provide a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. Keep in mind that a Class I trailer hitch can accommodate a maximum of 2 bikes with a hitch-mounted rack. Curt also requires that all non-trailer loads like bike racks and cargo carriers be supported with stabilizing straps like # 18050.
I have included the installation details for you to look over.
