Trailer Hitch & 7-Way Wiring Harness for 2014 GMC Acadia

Question:

I have a 2014 GMC Acadia. Im looking to buy a hitch and wiring harness. Id like to buy item #HM40975 so I have a 4 and 7 pole connector. My question is does this require splicing into wiring for the 7 Pole connection? I see other 4 way plugs connect directly into the factory plug-in. Does this item do the same? Also does this item include the wiring or is that a separate item? Thanks.

We can help you get your 2014 Acadia set with a hitch and wiring.

The hitch you can use is the 2-inch Class III Draw-Tite # 75528 which both costs less than the other option and offers higher weight capacity. This hitch features no-drill installation using included hardware. A video is linked for you showing this item installed on an Acadia.

For wiring, the basic 4-pole setup for your Acadia is part # 118270 but if you want to have a 7-way along with this 4-pole you will install the part above and to it add our # ETBC7 kit which allows installation of a fully-functioning 7-way with the additional circuits for trailer brakes, 12V power and reverse lights.

If you don't need a trailer brake controller, just the ability to connect a 7-way type trailer plug, then instead of the ETBC7 kit you will use just one of its parts, 4/7-way socket # 37185. This combination 4-pole/7-way plugs in to the 4-pole connector on the basic harness and allows those same lighting signals to appear on the 7-way.

Please note that using just this part does NOT give you the three additional circuits of a 7-way setup; it simply serves as an adapter to bring the 4-pole's signals to the 7-way format. If you do need to have a brake controller you will use ETBC7 along with the controller of your choice. I recommend the popular and reliable Prodigy P2 # 90885.

For your reference I have linked a few articles on trailer wiring and the installation of the brake controller.
