Supplemental Braking System Recommendation to Flat Tow a 2012 Fiat 500 Behind an RV
Question:
It looks like the Autostop would replace a much more expensive system like the RVi3 which I was considering. But how difficult is it to run the brake cable into the drivers compartment? And how does it attach to the brake peal?

In the world of supplemental braking systems the discontinued AutoStop BX8893 is one of the more difficult installations. While it seems like a simple set up the reality is that routing the cable to the brake pedal can be complicated. Also if the breakaway system is used BRK3050 and gets tripped the system has to be sent back to the manufacturer to reset it. In short I would advise against this system and go with a less complicated braking system.
One of the preferred systems for our installers and what I recommend is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
If your vehicle's brake lights do not illuminate when the vehicle is off or if the ignition is in the "tow" position, you will also need Stop Light Switch # RM-751455.
